The design and development of this system for vehicles started over three years ago, when I bought a new 2008 Chevy Pickup with a 5.3 liter V8. This new truck was supposed to get up to 24 MPG on the highway as stated on the "New Vehicle Sticker".
While traveling on vacation, I noticed that I was not getting the mileage that this new truck was supposed to get. At freeway speeds I was only getting 15.3 MPG compared to the 24 MPG written on the "New Vehicle Sticker". This new truck has "Active Fuel Management" but it sure does not seem to do what it was designed to do. I went back to the dealer that sold me the truck and complained about how this truck was doing on gas mileage. The dealer advised me to drive slower and my gas mileage should improve. I then started driving 10 MPH slower than usual and saw a very slight improvement! Instead of the 15.3 MPG, I was now getting 16 MPG, an increase in mileage of only 0.7MPG!!!
I've worked in Electronics most of my life, designing circuitry for many years. My disappointment in this truck inspired me to do something about the poor mileage I was getting.
